19th November - One Minute & The Tower + Q&A

18:30 - curzon soho, shaftesbury avenue, w1d 5dy

One Minute (dir. Dina Naser, 11 mins)
During the summer of 2014 Gaza war, in the battered neighbourhood of Shujaiya, 37-year-Salma made her home her shelter from the attacks. She and her daughter are protected in relative calm, until she receives a text message warning her of their impending fate. One Minute is an imaginative short film, lit by the glow of the mobile phone, leading us through the moments between friends’ heartfelt messages and the IDF evacuation notice. Powerless at the mercy of the tactics of war, all Salma and her baby have are those moments.

The Tower (dir. Mats Grorud, 74 mins)
Wardi, an eleven-year-old Palestinian girl, lives with her whole family in the refugee camp where she was born. Her beloved great-grandfather Sidi was one of the first people to settle in the camp after being chased from his home back in 1948. The day Sidi gives her the key to his old house back in Galilea, she fears he may have lost hope of someday going home. As she searches for Sidi’s lost hope around the camp, she will collect her family’s testimonies, from one generation to the next.

This screening, which is co-hosted by HOPING Foundation, will be followed by a discussion with Dr. Dina Matar (author, academic) and The Tower director, Mats Grorud.
