When she was a young lawyer, Kholoud AlFaqih walked into the office of Palestine's Chief Justice and announced she wanted to join the bench. He laughed at her. But a few years later, Kholoud became the first woman judge in the Sharia courts. There, she not only excels as a judge, but also puts her efforts into filling the void that women face in the court system and then moves on to daringly reinterpret Shari'a law in a way that is more justified for women. Kholoud is a brave and lucid judge whose journey is tireless and illuminating, but also unjust and suppressed. The Judge offers a rare insight into Shari'a law through the eyes of an empowered female lawyer who fights for justice for the women of her community, with the ability to cause ripples for women of the Muslim world at large.
