In one troubled corner of the Gaza Strip, where the landscape can alter from day to day at the mercy of the ongoing siege, one thing remains unchanged. Children here still make and fly kites, just as their parents and grandparents did before them. But it is more than just a pastime. It is an act of defiance and an expression of hope. In spite of the hardships they must endure, they would rather look up and see beauty than look around and feel trapped.

This screening takes place on the United Nations-appointed Day of International Solidarity with the Palestinian people. This year marks 70  years since the establishment by the General Assembly of the UN of UNRWA, in 1949, to address the emergency of an entire people dispossessed, with the majority made refugees to this day.

The London Palestine Film Festival convenes this evening of film, with poetry and presentations celebrating the extraordinary spirit of the Palestinian people, and highlighting the younger generation’s determination to achieve justice and equality.

This event is co-hosted with the HOPING Foundation. Drinks reception to follow.
