This session screens five films from the From Ground Zero+ project, offering intimate portraits of life in Gaza where creativity becomes a way of navigating displacement, loss and an uncertain future.
Gaza to Oscar (Palestine/France/Qatar 2025 Dir Alaa’ Damo 23 min)
In Gaza, filmmakers risk their lives to keep their people’s stories alive, turning harsh reality into cinema that crosses borders and reaches beyond the blockade. Alaa Damo is one of them, pursuing his film project alongside the daily struggle for food, water and shelter.
Very Small Dreams (Palestine/France/Qatar 2025 Dir Etimmad Washah 21 min)
In Gaza’s refugee camps, women fight to preserve their dignity as everyday life becomes a struggle for survival. Etimmad Washah’s film follows women navigating the harsh realities of life in the camps, where even the simplest needs become difficult to meet. Very Small Dreams finds humanity in these everyday struggles.
Colours Under The Sky (Palestine/France/Qatar 2025 Dir Reema Mahmoud 20 min)
Aya, a 22-year-old artist from Gaza, sets herself the challenge of composing, singing and recording a new song. Displaced with her mother in Rafah after losing her father and brother, she searches for a composer and studio among the rubble. Will Aya succeed in realising her dream?
Dreams of Farah and Zahra (Palestine/France/Qatar 2025 Dir Mustafa Al Nabih 20 min) In the heart of besieged Gaza, Farah holds onto her colours and Zahra to her voice. For the two girls, their dreams become a small act of defiance amid the destruction of their homes and the loss of those they love.
Unfinished Stories (Palestine/France/Qatar 2025 Dir Nidal Damo 19 min)
A filmmaker drifts from one unfinished story to another, until the loss of his son confronts him with a reality beyond imagination, transforming him from storyteller to protagonist.
