In a small village in the Golan Heights, Adnan, an unlicensed doctor, is going through an existential crisis. Broken down by the pressures of living under occupation and in earshot from a looming war, he is desperate not to follow in his father's footsteps. But the lack of control living in these conditions is desensitising. His life takes another unlucky turn when he encounters a man wounded near the checkpoint. Overturning all community expectations in times of war and national crisis, he ventures forth to meet his newly found destiny. Shot on location, the heavy silence and misty landscape push the narrative to its emotional heights. The Stranger (Al Garib) is an accomplished debut feature film by director Ameer Fakher Eldin. Starring two of Palestine's most celebrated performers, Ashraf Barhoum and Mohamed Bakri, as the distant patriarch, this slow burn drama marks the entry of a promising and unmissable cinematic talent.
